The Laboratory of Scientific Image Analysis (SCIAN-Lab) develops mathematical tools and computational algorithms to access dynamic, morphologic, and topologic features in experimental systems with a biophysical, biological, or medical background. High speed confocal microscopy in combination with image processing routines unravels the interplay between structure and function in lipid model systems and phenomena on sub-cellular, cellular, and supra-cellular levels in the field of developmental biology, neurobiology, or membrane biophysics.

El primer curso transdisciplinario de Métodos Matemáticos y Bioinformáticos para el Análisis de Datos Biológicos - MMBADB- se concentra en:
(i) importancia de métodos matemáticos/bioinformáticos en la medicina del presente y futuro,
(ii) métodos de análisis de secuencias en sistemas biológicos,
(iii) interpretación de datos de sistemas biológicos y biomédicos, y
(iv) manejo de herramientas bioinformáticas en el campo de la biología de sistemas e investigación biomédica en el ejemplo de la esquizofrenia.

Information and communication systems are crucial for efficient and sustainable health care systems in a modern society. Growing amounts of medical data such as images and reports are available for better diagnosis and therapy and may foster clinical research. However, considerable technical efforts are needed to integrate information of different types and from various sources. Complex information systems thus allow for the collection and distribution of relevant medical information to health care professionals and providers, but careful planning and management are indispensable for the successful deployment and acceptance throughout the medical staff. The course will focus on both technical and social requirements which are pivotal for successful implementation and operation of health information systems tailored to the needs of the particular health care institution. It will be structured into the following 3 modules:

Module M1: Management of Information Systems (IS) in Health Care
Module M2: User Centered Development and Adaption of Application Interfaces
Module M3: Project Management in HealthCare IT
